Quick answer

A 20 × 12 ft area at 4 in needs 3.5 yd³ when 10% extra is rounded to a 0.5 yd³ increment. At $165/yd³ that is $577.50 material before delivery, fees, labor and tax.

How this estimate works

Length × width × thickness in feet ÷ 27 gives exact cubic yards. Add your allowance, then round up to the supplier increment you entered. Bags use an example yield of 0.60 ft³ per 80 lb bag. Total cost adds the entered delivery, small-load, pump and labor amounts to ready-mix material, then applies the entered tax percentage.

Read our formulas, assumptions and sources.

Before you order

Enter an actual local quote. Delivery, small-load, pump and labor fields default to zero so nothing is silently assumed. Tax treatment varies by location; use the tax field only where it applies.

Ask the supplier about minimum loads, order increments and delivery charges. The suggested quantity is a rounding aid, not a supplier quote.

Read a supplier quote line by line

This calculator separates volume from price. The geometric result is measured quantity; the waste-adjusted figure is a planning allowance; the suggested supplier order rounds that figure to the increment you enter. The material line multiplies the rounded supplier order by your entered price per cubic yard. Delivery, small-load, pump, labor and tax are separate inputs so a blank quote is not mistaken for a free service.

For the default 20 × 12 ft example, 3.5 yd³ × $165/yd³ = $577.50 of ready-mix material. If a supplier also quotes $120 delivery and $100 small-load fee, the pre-tax total becomes $797.50. This is an example arithmetic check, not a current market price. Replace every price with an actual local quote.

Example quote scenarios

Entered itemsMaterialAdded chargesPre-tax total
3.5 yd³ × $165; no extras$577.50$0$577.50
Same quantity + $120 delivery$577.50$120$697.50
Same + $120 delivery + $100 small-load$577.50$220$797.50

If labor is quoted per hour or per square foot, calculate that outside this tool and enter its total. Apply estimated tax only to the amounts that are taxable in your location; the calculator cannot determine tax rules.

What this total leaves out

The optional pump and labor boxes cover only the amounts you enter. The total does not automatically include excavation, gravel, forms, rebar, finishing, permits, overtime, waiting time, washout, fuel surcharges or disposal. Confirm the scope of each supplier and contractor quote before comparing totals.

The 80 lb bag result is a volume equivalent, not a bag-cost comparison. For bag pricing, return to the multi-pour calculator and enter your price per bag. Bag mixing effort and transport can matter as much as a material price difference.

Questions before you order

Why is the material cost based on the suggested order?

Ready-mix is normally bought in an allowed order quantity. The suggestion rounds up to the increment you entered, so its cost uses that rounded quantity.

Can I use a zero delivery or labor fee?

Yes. Zero means you have not added that charge. Enter the amount from a quote if it applies.

Is the default $165 per cubic yard a live price?

No. It is only an editable arithmetic example. Get a current local quote before making a purchase decision.
